Explain the importance of credibility in qualitative research
- Qualitative research attempts to describe human behaviour by investigating the subjective meaning that people attach to their experience so it can be described
- Credibility criteria involves establishing that the results of qualitative research are credible or believable from the perspective of the participant in the research
- Credibility consider the breadth and depth of information gathered and how well the researcher appears to have analysed (How believable are the researcher’s conclusion?)
- Credibility represents one of the four criteria for judging qualitative research, it involves trustworthiness from the perspective of participants (Participants are the only ones who can legitimately judge the credibility of the results)
- Using well-established research methods
- Methodological triangulation
- Peer-review
- Using other researchers' interpretations to validate conclusions
